Davies Turner was established in 1870 by the South Wales Member of Parliament, Alfred Davies, to ship personal effects and general freight. As world trade expanded, the Company soon developed strong connections with North America and Europe as well as a network of branches throughout the UK.

Alfred Davies pioneered a system of grouping consignments together to reduce charges for individual shippers. His innovator approach made its mark and Davies Turner went on to standardise reusable lift vans, an important early step towards containerisation of household effects.
Our next chairman - Harold Davies - showed the same pioneering spirit in switching from horse drawn transport to Dennis Bros. lorries in the 1900s. Recognition for the Company's key role in opening up overland and deep sea routes to the Middle East over a period of 50 years came with the Queen's Award for Services to British Exporters. In 1970 we celebrated our centenary by installing our first computer and doubling our investment in the air freight industry.
Since 1990 the Company has doubled the number of branches in Great Britain and Ireland as well as expanding our world-wide network of overseas partners in to the Far East and Eurasia. We have accelerated our investment in purpose built depots, information technology, rail swap-bodies and trucks.
