TC Group

TC Group identified the need to consolidate its operations to benefit from the efficiencies of bulk storage, centralised distribution and a dedicated, experienced operations team.

The Challenge

TC Group is one of the leading office furniture suppliers in the UK with a reputation built on exceptional service and dedication to its customers.

In 2011, the company's business model expanded to include fulfilment services, starting with a 5-year furniture outsourcing deal with VOW.

This necessitated a flexible and scalable logistics solution whilst maintaining the service levels to which its customers had become accustomed.

TC Group identified the need to consolidate its operations to benefit from the efficiencies of bulk storage, centralised distribution and a dedicated, experienced operations team.

The Strategy

Together with TC Group, the Davies Turner implementation team devised a strategy that would allow for the seamless continuation of service for TC’s customers from these operational changes.

Full integration with Davies Turner’s Red Prairie Warehouse Management System provides greater stock visibility and order fulfilment, whilst algorithms were designed to select the optimum carrier for each order, keeping delivery costs and damage rates low.

Creative storage solutions were devised to accommodate the heavier and bulkier products, including dedicated wide-aisle racking for flat-pack furniture and bulk storage areas for steel filing cabinets and stacking chairs. State-of-the-art lifting equipment would be utilised in these areas to allow for efficient goods-in and picking operations.

Performance and efficiency would be monitored by carefully considered KPIs, including pick and receipt rates, accuracy and damage reports, as well as utilisation of storage areas to maintain high service levels, together with lower storage and labour costs.

The Solution

Working collaboratively Davies Turner developed a flexible solution which allowed the TC Group's logistics operation to support the company's business growth without having to bear the high cost of storage and labour.

After the successful implementation of the VOW fulfilment contract at our Birmingham logistics hub, our facilities and expert teams gave TC the confidence to begin consolidating its operation at one location from where it could benefit from the effect of scaling, allowing for bulk ordering and storage, centralised distribution and a consistent quality of service across all of its brands.

The Results

One of the results of our successful partnership, is that TC Group has continued to grow and been able seek new opportunities to give it a unique position in its market.

Our adaptable facilities and proven performance record continue to allow for creative new ideas that add value to the TC customer experience, such as the introduction and growth of a premium delivery service.

Following the success of the initial 5-year deal, TC renewed the fulfilment deal with VOW and with continued focus on system integration and efficiency has been able to expand its online presence, being one of the first furniture suppliers to achieve fast-track status on the Amazon Marketplace.
