Turtle Wax

Order volumes saw a 10-fold increase over the space of just a few days.

The Challenge

Whilst Turtle Wax has successfully delivered a wide range of car care products into the retail and wholesale arenas of the automotive sector since its launch in 1945. In 2018 it sought to develop its web-based platform and build its online presence and e-commerce operations.

The e-commerce platform was foreseen as an ever more crucial part of Turtle Wax’s business model going forward. It was essential that an efficient and scaleable supply chain system be established that would underpin the requirements of the e-commerce platform as online purchases increased.
 

The Strategy

Discussions followed on the requirements and scope of the new e-commerce operation, and to ensure a logistics solution was established that met both short term requirements and demand, and sufficiently robust and flexible to handle increased future demand.
 

The Solution

A dedicated e-commerce area, complete with new shelving and packing stations, was established, all thoughtfully laid out to ensure the greatest efficiency, whilst also allowing space to expand as Turtle Wax’s e-commerce operation grew. In conjunction with Turtle Wax, systems were fully integrated to allow for a seamless and efficient pick and pack operation, with parcel carriers and labels also integrated to allow for quick and accurate despatch.

We worked in partnership with Turtle Wax to ensure every part of the operation had been considered, from pick algorithms and stock management triggers and reporting mechanisms, through to the bespoke cartons to speed up the packing process A reliable, efficient and scaleable operation was established from the outset.
 

The Results

Within just a short time the e-commerce operation was up and running, and proving to be a huge success.

Since March 2020, the capabilities of the system have been really tested as a result of the change in customer shopping habits resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic.
Order volumes saw a 10-fold increase over the space of just a few days but despite the challenging working environment we quickly mobilised additional staff and rapidly increased the size of the e-commerce pick and pack area to allow us to increase capacity at short notice. We were very quickly processing up to 2,000 orders per day proving our operation was scaleable and also flexible to deal with the fluctuating demand during a very uncertain time.

With this success, volumes are only set to increase going forward and Davies Turner is ready and waiting to step up to the challenge once more.
