As we are all aware, there continues to be a considerable degree of uncertainty in respect of the outcome of Brexit negotiations.
Despite this uncertainty, we would like to take this opportunity to give our Customers and other stakeholders
as much comfort as is possible in understanding the steps taken by Davies Turner and our position in dealing with any potential implications – whatever the outcome of the negotiations.
Davies Turner has a
number of partners and agents throughout the European Union, and the rest of the World. The relationships with these entities, in many cases, are
longstanding and robust and Davies Turner will
continue to work successfully with our European partners and agents, beyond Brexit, for the benefit of our Customers.
Davies Turner has a
wealth of experience built up over many years in dealing with consignments outside the European Union. Regardless of the consequences of Brexit, Davies Turner can and always has been able to flex its capacity to deal with such consignments as and when the need arises. This ability is underpinned by our Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) status, dedicated customs clearance team and colleagues who are experts in customs related matters throughout the Davies Turner business.
Although any possible cost implications resulting from Brexit are presently unknown, Davies Turner has been keenly keeping its “ear to the ground”, remained in contact with industry figures and has attended numerous meetings arranged by its trade body, the British International Freight Association (BIFA), namely:
• 21 November 2017 – Brexit panel held at East Midlands Airport hosted by BIFA for local companies and organisations.
• 23 November 2017 – Meeting in Dover organised by BIFA and focussed on the consequences of Brexit, which included presentations from HMRC, UK Border Force, Defra, Trading Standards, the Animal and Plant Health Agency.
• 30 November 2017 – BIFA Customs Policy Group meeting which was also attended by HMRC.
• 1 December 2017 – Customs Declaration Services (CDS) stakeholders meeting at BIS office in London in regards to the developments of the new ‘CHIEF’ computer system.
• 13 March 2018 – BIFA area meeting at Birmingham Airport.
• 24 April 2018 – BIFA Customs Policy Group meeting.
• 21 June 2018 – BIFA area meeting at East Midlands.
• 10 July 2018 – Meeting with HMRC in regards to CDS.

Davies Turner continues to stay in close touch with BIFA and industry figures and is monitoring Government announcements and the media. More information on Brexit can be found in this article:

Notwithstanding all of the above, in light of the continuing uncertainty, our Customers will appreciate the difficulty in giving definitive guidance on what may or may not be the consequences of Brexit on their own businesses.
However, Customers can rest assured that Davies Turner will, as always, continue to support all of its stakeholders through a continuing unparalleled service which calls on years of expertise and a general preparedness in relation to the movement of consignments not just throughout Europe following Brexit, but also around the globe.
