Operations suspended at Pudong terminal

Date Added: 23 August 2021

Further to our news item from August 17; with Davies Turner Air Cargo's broad range of expedited air freight logistics services to and from the Chinese market, we would like to advise that operations have been suspended at Pudong Air Cargo Terminal (PACTL), a major operations facility at Shanghai Pudong International Airport, because of a COVID-19 outbreak, putting a halt to most freighter activity at China’s largest cargo airport.

For over a week at Shanghai airport, all freighter operators have faced delays and cancelled flights because of airport staffing shortages that occurred when authorities imposed strict COVID protocols to prevent the virus from spreading.

The timing of the closure adds to the difficulties facing air cargo supply chains already stretched thin and has resulted in a pause in all ground handling, customs and airfreight services at the terminal. PACTL is one of two cargo terminals at the Shanghai Pudong airport.

Whilst there is conflicting information within the Shanghai cargo community, we understand that health authorities are testing everyone in the cargo terminal for COVID and believe that whilst there is uncertainty about the likely length of the shutdown, reports suggest it could be more than a week based on how authorities have handled similar cases at seaports and other logistics hubs.

However, Davies Turner Air Cargo is working hard to secure alternative routings and solutions for customers.
