Asia-Europe container trade growing in 2024
As a provider of international container shipping services for LCL and FCL cargoes, Davies Turner notes that the Container News website reports that container shipments from Asia to Europe amounted to 1.59 million teu in July, according to Japan Maritime Center (JMC) and Container Trades Statistics (CTS).
The article indicates that for July, Asia to Europe container shipments increased by 6.4% from a year earlier, which was a year-on-year improvement for 17 months in a row, due to briskness in furniture, bedding, garments and other consumer goods. In the first seven months (January-July) of 2024, Asia’s container exports to Europe have reached 10.34 million teu, according to the report.
The report adds that meanwhile, shipments from Europe to Asia shrank 0.6% to 539,331 teu in July, suffering their first year-on-year contraction in three months. In the January-July period, in contrast, they have grown marginally by 0.3% to 3.73 million teu.
