US port strike looms

As a strike by dockers in ports along the US East and Gulf coasts draw ever closer, there is much speculation about the likely impact.

- Negotiations between unions and employers remain at impasse just 8 days from the October 1st deadline
- CMA CGM and Hapag-Lloyd have announced surcharges for all US East Coast and Gulf ports
- The Biden Administration is not expected to invoke the Taft-Hartley Act to enforce cooling off period
- Ports and terminals along the US East and Gulf coasts, have in many cases advised that they will have extended gate hours in the coming week
- Carriers are now also altering their operations, including a number of port omissions in this coming week
