China-Europe freight train services expand in first four months According to China's State Council Information Office, China-Europe freight train services saw solid growth from January to April this year, with the transport capacity and efficiency continuously rising. This is certainly our experience with increasing volumes of cargo being carried on our LCL and FCL rail freight services between China and the UK in 2023. The State Council Information Office reports that the number of China-Europe freight train services increased by 17 percent year on year to 5,611 trips in the first four months of 2023, according to the China State Railway Group Co. About 609,000 teu of goods were transported via the freight trains during this period, up 32 percent from a year ago, the company said. In April alone, the number of China-Europe freight train trips surged 25 percent year on year to 1,459. The trains transported about 160,000 teu of goods, representing an increase of 45 percent from a year ago. As of the end of April, the number of domestic departure cities of the freight train services had reached 109, providing links to 211 cities in 25 European countries. Davies Turner’s own dedicated twice-weekly LCL Express China rail freight service is currently achieving an average 22 days transit time from departed Wuhan / X'ian to arrival our UK depot. Originally launched in 2018, the operation remains the only direct intermodal consolidation service between China and UK. On departure from Wuhan / X'ian, the rail service heads direct to Duisburg in Germany. Containers are then trucked under bond to Rotterdam for transport by ferry to Purfleet, then on-carried by truck (still secure in the same container) to Davies Turner’s regional distribution centres across the UK, where they are discharged, customs cleared and delivered to final destination. We also offer a dedicated weekly consol service by rail from the UK to China, which provides clients with a scaled tariff for export rail shipments - so the more you ship, the more you save!
