Five percent drop in schedule reliability in January

With a comprehensive network of international container shipping services, including LCL and FCL import and export operations, Davies Turner notes that Sea-Intelligence is reported to have said that global ocean carrier schedule reliability has continued to decrease, dropping by 5.1 percentage points month on month in January 2024, the same month-on-month drop as in December 2023, to 51.6 per cent, the lowest score since September 2022.

On a year-on-year level, schedule reliability in January 2024 was 0.8 percentage points lower than in January 2023, according to Sea-Intelligence Maritime Analysis.

Sea-Intelligence said that sailings diverted round the Cape of Good Hope from the Suez Canal, helped increase the average delay for late vessel arrivals.

Only five of the top 13 carriers achieved a schedule reliability in January 2024 above the 50 per cent mark, said the maritime consultancy.

It added that in the month, the remaining carriers all had schedule reliability of between 40 and 50 per cent; whilst the difference in schedule reliability between the most and least reliable carrier was the lowest since February 2023.
